Gander's Cholla a relatively recently recognized subspecies of the Buckhorn Cholla back in 1995. It is one of the two most common cholla found in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Cholla is a common site throughout Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Like most desert plants, its prickly exterior makes it a site to savor from a distance. Yet, in the golden tones of the early morning, even the cholla is beautiful.

I believe this is Gander’s Cholla a relatively recently recognized subspecies of the Buckhorn Cholla back in 1995. It is one of the two most common cholla found in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
