There's a world out there to explore and so many w

There's a world out there to explore and so many ways to approach it. We love our trustworthy truck and camper but we didn't wait for our perfect adventure mobile to start having adventures. ⁠
⁠
We started with buses, trains, and hiking boots. Taking mass transit to nearby wilderness areas and tramping around for a day.⁠
⁠
We worked our way up to car rentals and road trips to cabins, yurts, and B&Bs.⁠
⁠
We were fortunate to get a hand-me-down van to begin tentatively prodding the outskirts of remote wilderness and embark on prolonged adventures.⁠
⁠
It was only after years of prodding our limits that we settled on a truck and began contemplating campers. And, throughout it all, we had adventures, big and small.⁠

I almost missed it! Thankfully, Chris has a talent for spotting wildlife.⁠

Bald eagles and golden eagles are reported around Lake Powell at various times of the year. ⁠
⁠
When we first notice one raptor enjoying a meal along the shore, we are hesitant to leap to the conclusion that it is a bald eagle. But its bright white crown is undeniable. ⁠
⁠
Further down, we also spot an adolescent scoping out the waterfront from its perch on a sandstone cliff. I hadn’t considered I would want my wildlife lens while rafting. But here I am, regretting my limited zoom capabilities.⁠

Do you remember when we visited Lone Rock Campground on Lake Powell back in 2019? Back then, Lone Rock truly was a lonely monolith rising from the lake. ⁠

On this trip, with our new packrafts, we had intended to paddle out to the rock and explore it. But today, the lake has fallen to a point where you could walk to the rock without getting your feet wet.⁠

It’s a changing landscape. Old routes have disappeared exposing new terrain.

Did you guess where we were in our last reel?⁠

It's Antelope Canyon!⁠
⁠
You probably have seen pictures of influencers posing between the narrow pink sandstone cliffs of Antelope Canyon. But did you know it's also an amazing paddle?⁠
⁠
Several miles of the Antelope Canyon are flooded where the mouth meets Lake Powell, a flooded portion of the Colorado River.⁠
⁠
Those dramatic rock walls also mean that launch points are non-existent within the canyon—short of rappelling down the walls. Instead, we start our adventure at the Antelope Point Launch Ramp. ⁠
⁠
Well sort of. You see, Lake Powel is shrinking and with it, the shoreline is receding. Receding to the point that even this "launch ramp" would only launch you into thin air. These days, it ends on a cliff. ⁠
⁠
Fortunately, there's a little side hike you can take from it to reach the shore. ⁠Sliding down the sandy slope, I understand why one park ranger advised me that many kayakers regret launching here. It would be awkward to carry hard-sided watercraft down this terrain. Fortunately, we have inflatable @kokopelli packrafts. While our descent may be inelegant, it's very manageable.⁠
