Big projects can seem daunting at the outset. The satisfaction of a job well done is a reward in itself. But a renovation project like this means we get the extra boost of bringing it to the beach and taking in a jaw-dropping sunset.⁠

Some days, I feel like nature is toying with me. As if some omniscient force knows exactly what I want, will let me get achingly close, but just not quite there.⁠
⁠
Today, it's the pelicans. I keep almost getting a share-worthy shot but then the bird nestles its head under its wing or is obstructed by a pier in the foreground, or takes off just as I bring it into focus.⁠
⁠
I know the pelican doesn't care if I get my picture. But it doesn't stop feeling like it does.⁠
⁠
So, no epic shots today. Just near misses.⁠
⁠

Oh...and that last photo with pelicans soaring over the Avion. Chris took that.⁠

During our time on the road, one rule has proved itself true time and time again: if it's tedious to do, we'll eventually stop doing it. ⁠
⁠
We had heavy eBikes that were hard to load and unload so we rarely road them. ⁠
⁠
We had bulky camp chairs that took up a massive amount of storage space. So we replaced them. ⁠
⁠
We had cheap inflatable kayaks that were neigh impossible to pack down to a reasonable size, so we stopped traveling with them.⁠
⁠
Effort, space, and time are all limited. We don't want to waste it on the wrong equipment.⁠
⁠
On the other hand:⁠
Gear that is easy to use gets used. ⁠
⁠
Which is why we chose to travel with @Kokopelli Rogue Lites. They are so simple to unpack. And when we pack them down at the end of an outing, they pack down small. Like, 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭 enough to fit in our upper storage bins 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭. ⁠

So, now, we have our designated paddling bin on our truck bed where we store our rafts, paddles, life vests, and dry bags. It's easy to keep everything orderly when everything easily fits in one place.⁠

Who thinks I’ll flip the raft?⁠

Chris mostly takes videos of me while paddling in the Gulf of Mexico because he is certain I will flip the raft and doesn’t want to miss the moment.⁠
⁠
I don’t know why he would expect it. I haven’t flipped the raft before and these are fairly small waves.⁠
⁠
But what I considered a little test run in the surf has Chris holding his breath for the big wave to surprise me.⁠
⁠
Either way, it means we have a lot of videos of me bobbing on the waves. Better yet, it was all shot in landscape. So, get ready to rotate your device and put in your bet:⁠
