In which we kill time chasing sea gulls and photographing seashells at Dockweiler State Beach.

When a friend’s plane was delayed two hours, we had time to kill before picking them up from LAX. Instead of camping out* at a Starbucks, we went to the beach.

Dockweiler State Beach is less than a ten minute drive from LAX. Had I thought ahead, we would have brought all the fixings for dinner because this is one of the few beaches that allow bonfires. As it was, we relaxed as airplanes sore overhead. When would the plane be holding our friend? In the mean time, I raced the surf and collected sea shells.

We had way too much fun killing time at the beach. I had my friend run off into the sunset multiple time. It is a testament to our friendship that I got a third round of shots.

It was rather fortuitous that our friend was scheduled to arrive at sunset. I cant think of a better hour to relax and kill time.

Though, by the end of sunset, I was hunting around for new things to photograph. I started accumulating piles of sea shells. One of the many upsides of Dockweiler State Beach is the numerous, large seashells.

I think it’s funny how Dockweiler State Beach is a place for many people (and animals) to kill time. We are in the company of many species with time on their hands.

* I understand that the expression “camping out” can be taken quite literally when referring to us, but this was meant in the metaphorical sense.
