For the burgeoning oenophile, Melville Winery is a delight and education. While the winery boasts award winning Chardonnay, like most in this ideal appellation, it specializes in Pinot Noir. With vineyards on multiple properties scattered across the Santa Rita hills, Melville boasts a range of Pinot Noir characteristic of specific growing conditions. While they don’t tend to be on the tasting menu, if you have a chance of conducting a side-by-side tasting of the Block M and Terraces, it is a revealing experience.
Down to brass tacks: Melville is not sold at a price point that we drink on a regular occasion. But, it is one of our wineries of choice when celebrating very important benchmarks or, in this case, as a “thank you / birthday present” for out upcoming hosts.
