The Little Missouri Falls

Seven miles down a moderately managed dirt road in the Ouachita National Forest is the Little Missouri Falls. The drive is pretty doable for any car in the proper conditions—there is a creek crossing that could cause trouble after heavy rain—but the reason to drive this road is the swimming hole at the end.

The Little Missouri Falls are a series of terraced waterfalls that flow into a swimming hole. The trail that traces along these falls is one section of the Eagle Rock Loop. We didn’t finish the The Little Missouri Falls trail simply because we enjoyed the falls themselves too much. I rolled up my knee length shorts and waded along.

The road to the Little Missouri Falls Trailhead is relatively long. But for all it’s unpaved length, I cannot recall any washboard.

The Little Missouri Falls
The name Little Missouri Falls refers to the river “Little Missouri” not the size of the falls, themselves. While they may not be the tallest, they certainly stretch our for quite a distance.
