Arroyo Salado Primitive Campground, as the name implies, is a primitive campground. There are vaulted toilets, but any other convenience is up to you to bring. There is one thing that Arroyo Salado does have over other, more developed campgrounds in Anza-Borrego: an amazing view.

When we finally drove back our of the wash, the last light of dusk allowed me just enough visibility to pick out a campsite. I picked it for the view. I looked out and through: “wow, that is going to look amazing in the morning!”

I did not pick this spot for the wind. I did not consider how the rock formations funnel the powerful desert winds along the canyons and how they might batter a poor little truck camper in the wee hours of the night.

While we got into the Avion, one particularly powerful gust catches the door and nearly pulls it from the camper’s body. The lower hinges give out. It will be a while before we are in a position to fix them.

At least I got this sunrise view in compensation.

You know, I think it might be worth it!
