Back when I lived in NYC, one of my favorite haunts specialized in frozen Pomegranate Margaritas. They became a touchstone for a period in my early 20s that I haven't had the opportunity to revisit in years. But this last week I bought a cup of pomegranate seeds to eat and discovered that they fermented faster than I could consume them. So, here I am, unsure what to do with a bunch of partially fermented pomegranate seeds when it occurs to me: these would be great in a cocktail!

Camp-Punk Sangria

Camp-Punk Sangria is the cocktail recipe for those that would bend over backwards to buck tradition. Even if that means mixing Mello Yellow with wine.

Sangria relies on some base of citrus and some other fruit mixed with a dry red wine and some liquor like brandy. This makes for a relatively simple formula that is easy to tweak for any occasion. Traditionally, the fruit is apple and orange, which I brought. I also brought raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries.

It's fall in the South, but the weather hasn't quite gotten the memo. I had been looking forward to our latest camping trip for a while, but found that the heat really deprived me of much motivation to do much more than sit out in my camp chair and observe: "Warm today.
