We arrived on Mackinac Island in time for brunch at The Carriage House.

The Carriage House occupies the ground floor of the Hotel Iroquois, along the south-east coast of Mackinac Island.

Aside from the exclusive Grand Hotel, The Carriage House appeared to be one of the more upscale dining options on the island. The pastel colors and white framed picture windows created a upscale east coast beachside atmosphere but we were drawn to the large patio where we sat, facing Wonderful Kite Park! (the exclamation mark appears to be part of the name) and sipping cocktails.

We sat with a view of Wonderful Kite Park! The name is quite apt.

The Carriage House menu was simple but tasteful. I enjoyed the open faced crab melt. I have yet to have a bad one and this did not disappoint. Meanwhile my carless driver (Mackinac’s ban of motorized vehicles drives the position of “driver” into obsolescence) enjoyed a creative take on the veggie burger. The crab melt was better.

Starting a luxurious afternoon on Mackinak Island with a mimosa and cocktails.

Lexi lives in a truck camper down by the river.
