In this year's holiday haul, I got a dutch oven and cooking tripod. Obviously, it meant we had some cooking to do.

I have been wanting a Dutch oven for quite a while now. Pretty much all of my cooking on the road has been on a cast-iron skillet. But a cast-iron Dutch oven stands to greatly expand our cooking options. So, when asked what I wanted for Christmas, the answer was easy: a Dutch oven.

Why am I writing about my present? Because I took a really neat picture of it and I wanted an excuse to show said picture. I was making breakfast and the hash browns were completely cooked on the bottom but the eggs were still running on the top. So, I took one of the logs out of the fire and placed it on top of the dutch oven to heat up the top. That was when I discovered that I had to stop cooking and take a picture. I had just recently been reading about how to photograph smoke and then, as the log cooked for me, the lighting was perfect.

Turns out, the top of our dish needed a little more cooking, so we just took one of the logs from the fire and set it on the top of the dutch oven.
