From Marble Museums to Desert Displays

From Outdoor Art To Found Sculpture

Sure, we hit the odd museum, but few things thrill us more than discovering art out in the wild. Art can be found in some of the oddest of places. And guess, what? That’s where we go to! Here’s some special finds!

Goldwell Open Air Museum

Strange things happen in the desert. It is a place of extreme temperatures and temperaments. It is a place of rugged self-sufficiency and creative invention born of necessity.

Those that survive here are the outliers. And in the remote outskirts of the Nevada desert, along the border of Death Valley National Park, is one of the strangest destinations we have encountered: the Goldwell Open Air Museum.

Artistry in the Outdoors

Out here, the gallery has no walls. From the haunting silhouettes of the Goldwell Open Air Museum to the neon chaos of Robolights, we celebrate the raw, rebellious creativity that thrives under open skies. These aren’t just art installations—they’re statements.

Whether it’s the surreal serenity of Noah Purifoy’s Outdoor Desert Art Museum, the post-apocalyptic satire of East Jesus, or the cryptic lore of Krblin Jihn Kabin, each site tells a story on its own terms. You’ll find Cadillacs nose-down in Texas dirt, ravinous boulders, and minimalist monoliths in Marfa thanks to The Chinati Foundation.

This is art uncontained—gritty, weird, deeply personal, and unapologetically outside.

Fish Rocks

Out in the remote California desert, a debate between art, graffiti, and history rages in slow motion at the Fish Rocks (aka “Whale Rocks” or “Fish Head Rocks,”). These painted rocks off highway 178 trace their origins back to the 1930s. Since then, the question of art vs. graffiti has swirled long enough around this…
