Pastry Hot Dog Campfire Cooking
Hot dogs have always been our fallback when we want to cook over the campfire but aren’t up to a big production. But what if we want to cook over the campfire and have a mini production? This recipe for the Spit Fire Hotdog Wrapped In Pastry can be as simple or as complicated as your heart desires. Add cheese, role in herbs, dip in aloe, it’s all good and makes for a great camping activity for both kids and adults. Kids can stick with their boring dogs while you can hunt down the hickory smoked sausage with gourmet catsup.
Spit Fire Hot Dog Wrapped In Pastry Recipe
Serves 4-8
Ingredients
- 8 hot dogs
- 8 large crescent dinner rolls (one package)
Equipment
Directions
This recipe places far more emphasis in cooking than preparation. All you need to do to prepare the meal is to roll each hotdog in a crescent roll. You are free to include a slice of cheese, herbs, or any other addition, but the only necessary components are the hot dog and crescent roll.
The challenge is cooking the roll evenly so that the exterior is not burned while the interior is baked through. Be sure to hold the hotdog over indirect heat and regularly rotate the dog so that each side is exposed to heat. In some cases, it may be easier to flip the hotdog around on the toasting fork so that the side that was facing in will face out and get cooked. Once the pastry is completely cooked, let cool and enjoy with the garnish of your choosing.
