While traveling on the road, hiking trails are our gym.  We love to get out in the middle of nowhere for impressive vistas and flirtations with wildlife.

Andrews Glacier Trail

Hiking Andrews Glacier Trail and other Bear Lake Corridor Trails in Rocky Mountain National Park

Andrews Glacier Trail is a 9.3-mile in-out hike in the Bear Lake Area of Rocky Mountain National Park. It is one of a series of iconic hikes sprouting from the core Glacier Gorge loop. The hike itself is considered so minor among the group that, in a list of 17 Bear Lake Corridor Trails, it isn't even listed. But, that's part of the reason we chose the trail. Because when everything is as awe inspiring as Rocky Mountain National Park, the popular trails are clogged with traffic and the lesser trails—only lesser in the most relative of senses—are practically empty.

We do not come to Anza-Borrego with particular plans. So, in the morning, we go into town, Borrego Springs, for a recommendation on what to do with the day. Broken Arrow Trail

Taking in the view along Broken Arrow.

There is a reason for the hikes popularity. It's a relatively easy hike, good for all ages, and the views are AMAZING. Each elevation gain calls for another pause to take in the panoramic view. While the route is a 3.2 mile loop with moderate elevation gain, any distance along the trail is worth the view!

Brins Mesa Trail

There are so many hikes to choose from around Sedona, AZ but Brins Mesa Trail stands out as accessible, athletic, and awe inspiring with vistas along its entire stretch.

Sedona has so many trails in and among the brilliantly colored buttes that the choice of what to hike can be daunting. There are the classics—like Broken Arrow and Devil's Bridge—but the popularity of these shouldn't negate the many other trails. In fact, popularity and small parking lots can be a compelling reason to focus on alternate trails, especially later in the day.

Not Quite Parrots, a Hike, and a Sunset

Back around Cape Brett and Motu Kōkako to hike Moturua Island and anchor in Paradise Bay, Urupukapuka Island in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand.

How can this be? A massive storm is supposed to roll in tomorrow but today is the clearest, sunniest day yet! We wake up to our own, secluded bay. I make breakfast and we are out to sea, around “The Hole In The Rock” and headed to Army Bay. Kim, our host, has explained that the best muscling is a short dingy's ride from the bay and a well established hiking path takes us across the island.
