Campfire Recipes

Cooking in the wilderness, campgrounds, rvs, hotels, and along other road trip stops comes with its own set of limitations. Delicate, perishable food is limited. Power is a precious commodity. Specialized tools come into play. And alternative techniques to accomplish normally simple kitchen tasks. Here are recipes with a nomadic twist. We limit our reliance on perishables, ice, blenders, and other high energy tools in favor of open flame cooking and shelf stable ingredients. Not everything is canned, but we try to strike a balance representative of the challenges of our tiny travel life.

Breakfast Recipes

After years on the road, we have our campground rituals. Each morning, I get up, take in the view, stoke up a fire, and get to cooking. These are some of my favorite campfire recipes. From my savory Campfire Bacon & Eggs Hash to the sweet Camper’s Berry French Toast Loaf. See one that inspires you? Give it a whirl and let me know how you like it.

Lunch Recipes

Often, lunch for us is a granola bar or other quick snack to keep us going through our travels. But when we have the luxury of a lazy day at the campground, it's time to pull out our handy grilling baskets, tinfoil, and forks and whip up some simple, tasty meals over the campfire. Allow me to recommend the Class in the Campground Prosciutto Mozzarella Sandwich, it is a personal favorite.

Appetizers Recipes

Who says you can't enjoy multi-course dining at the campground? While we normally fall back on cheese, cured meats, and fruits for pre-dinner snacking, somedays we pull out the big guns, stoke up the fire, and prepare some tasty appetizers. Here are some of my favorite appetizers for campground cooking.

Dinner Recipes

The perfect way to wrap up a day of hiking, kayaking, off-roading, or other outdoor adventures is time around the campfire. Take it to the next level by cooking dinner over the open flame. These are a collection of my favorite recipes. I particularly recommend the Down Home Shrimp & Grits! It’s my favorite recipe to prepare for visitors.

Campfire Cocktails

We travel with a small liquor cabinet on board. While we mostly rely on wine and beer, it’s fun to create a special event with a little mixology. So, when the time comes to celebrate, we are all ready!
